mtvU - College Television Network

Digital Video and Messaging Satellite Network

Rick was Chief Technology Officer for College Television Network, the first interactive video and messaging network for college students. Students selected music videos from a kiosk touch screen and watched them on screens installed in common areas. Ads and messages appeared during breaks. Messages were created and managed by the school administration through a self-service website.

Video content distribution transistioned from laser discs to digital video CD-ROMs, and ultimately, satellite networks and massive hard drives. We collected usage data via an automated modem network.

The CTN network was acquired by Viacom and transformed under MTV's leadership to become mtvU.
